Solar is a large investment and writing a fair review on a large investment is a tough thing to do because it's easy to be unhappy when big money is involved, but it's also easy to be afraid to be unhappy for the same reason. With that in mind, I'd first like to point out a few things I think will make your decision on a solar investment more likely to be successful. 1. Do lots and lots of research. Dale (Sales Manager at Pacific Sun Tech) has plenty of YouTube videos on different products, as well as the installation process; making him a great resource. We happened to ultimately go with his company; however, you should seek a variety of sources of information to figure out what's best for you. The fact that you're reading this is a good start! 2. Know how much money you're willing to spend and seek multiple quotes/offers to make the most of that. In our case, Pacific Sun Tech actually ended up being the more expensive choice. 3. Do research on the products you plan to purchase and understand your roof. It kind of goes without saying that the solar installer is going to understand this better than you, but it's important you are somewhat educated on the matter so you can gain confidence in your installer. If after doing all of this you're still considering Pacific Sun Tech, here's our experience with them... First, we met with Dale over Zoom and gave him a run down of what we're looking for. Dale pitched us a product slate that matched the products we were interested in with a total installation quote. We considered it, but decided the power output wouldn't be enough for our future needs and met with Dale again to rework the size and quote. Before officially accepting the offer, Pacific Sun Tech sent out a technician named Devin to inspect our roof and electrical panel for compatibility. We then worked with Dale twice more to optimize panel placements and inverter types before officially accepting the offer. From here there was a 4-6 week pause as bureaucracy processes were handled with the city (blueprints and permits). Pacific Sun Tech handled all of this and was communicative with every step of the process. Once approved, Pacific Sun Tech set an installation date with us and instructed us on what other minor things were needed to make the process smooth (things like a small canister of paint to match home color for conduit pipes, driveway access, etc). It took 4 people and 2 days for the installation to be fully completed and operational. Afterwards, the final steps were also handled by Pacific Sun Tech, which were passing city inspection and handling our Net Metering application with the utility provider. All in all, we were very impressed with how smooth everything went... We accepted the installation offer around the middle of September and had solar power operating by Nov. 2nd. The total price was higher than other offers, but that was a choice we made based on confidence we gained in Dale when we watched his product reviews and installation videos. I will say that after accepting the offer, there were 2 concerns that came up on our end that ultimately seemed to be our fault, but it's why I stressed in the beginning of the review that you understand the products you're agreeing to purchase before signing. 1. We signed the contract with a known change order that would occur later. We estimated the change order would cost us ~$800, but it actually cost $1200. In the future, if the change order is known, I'd wait to sign until after the change was drawn up. 2. We signed the contract assuming we were getting Pegasus Solar tile replacements, but we instead got Ironridge tile replacements. This doesn't ultimately matter, since the solar panels cover up the installation anyway; however, it did serve as a point of confusion and I could see others being upset with the difference. For this reason, to help ensure your happiness, I'd recommend you research both products and if you decide you heavily prefer one over the other, then insist upon it when drawing up a contract to sign.

Pacific Sun Technologies educates their consumers with valuable info videos online and offers quality products. They are transparent, timely in each phase of the installation process, and follow up with the city and utility requirements and communications. Their staff are courteous and qualified for the type of work they each do. We are very satisfied with our solar system from Pacific Sun Technologies and are glad we chose them over the other three companies we explored.

My solar system installed by Pacific Sun Tech was a very easy process from start to finish. They did all the permitting and had their people available for the inspections. It is a very clean installation and the SDG&E and city inspectors commented on the quality of the install. Their staff filed the forms for the warranty and SDG&E for permission to operate. I am very happy with the how the project went.

Pacific Sun Technologies is a group of people who are extremely knowledgeable and responsive to customer needs/requirements. They handle everything from start to finish. Just tell them what you want. They will design the best system meeting your needs. And they stay current on new technologies. They answer any questions that come up to educate customers. Frankly I was expecting some hiccups because I had a challenging installation done over 4 days. Also because other installers had quit saying they couldn’t deliver what I needed. I knew this required deep understanding of products and performance. Sorry I was wrong. No hiccups. Everything worked like magic, done on budget and on time. I selected them 1 out of 7 installers. And I had to cancel with 2 installers after signing contracts. That is expensive education losing some of deposit. If you want to save time, money and hassles, go with Pacific Sun Technologies. All installers promise tasks start to finish. But they can’t deliver. You will be very happy with these guys. I am telling all my friends to use them. Good luck. Go solar. Save our planet!

My two year quest for solar ended with Pacific Sun Texchnologies. After having entered in to contracts with Solar companies that said they could meet my requirements and then tried to back me into their canned solution, Pacific Sun listened to my requirements and put together a package that reflected the requirements that I proposed. After a few fits and starts the installed the system in two segments as we had to wait for the battery and EV charger. The only significant issue came with the installation and configuration of the SPAN smart panel. Though the EV charger is functional, it currently cannot be controlled by the SolarEdge phone app. Supposidly that is an issue with SPAN software. Besides that if asked I would highly recomment Pacific Sun Technologies. Not the cheapest but, they will listen to your requirements and design a system taylored to your needs not just pitch a canned solution. I appreciate that!

Compared Pacific Sun's proposal with several others (including national companies.) Pacific Sun Tech's proposal was a better design, very reasonable pricing. I compared Pacific Sun's installation plans with other plans submitted to our city at the same time-frame, Pacific Sun's submitted plans were much better prepared, professionally designed. The installation in spite of obstacles like weather and COVID restrictions , was on-time and of high quality. The installation, and permit, and PTO application was very efficient. I will go with Pacific Sun for my future energy storage installation.

We started with reading many articles, watching at least 20 YouTube videos about solar energy, installations, systems, panels and their manufactures. We then received 5 proposals and after many questions we found Pacific Sun Technologies and their respective Jonny Turner to be the most responsive and comprehensive in their responses to our questions and their proposals. Their installation was excellent and went beyond by repairing a few sections of our tile roof that had been broken by previous workers from previous projects. Our entire installation on our 3000 square foot home took two days, and passé our inspections first time. We couldn’t be happier with the neatest and professional team from start to finish.

What To Look For In A Solar Installer?

When looking for a solar installer, it's essential to consider various factors to ensure you choose a reputable and competent company that meets your needs.

When selecting an installer like Pacific Sun Technologies consider:

Experience and Reputation:

Look for a company with a solid track record and years of experience in the solar industry. Read the latest Pacific Sun Technologies solar reviews from past customers to gauge their reputation.

Certifications and Licenses:

Ensure the installer holds the necessary licenses and certifications required in your area. Look for certifications from organizations like the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) to verify their expertise.

Quality Products and Technology:

Inquire about the types and brands of solar panels, inverters, and other equipment they use. Quality matters for long-term performance. Ask if they offer the latest solar technologies, such as high-efficiency panels or energy storage solutions.

Warranty Information:

Understand the warranties they offer for equipment and workmanship. A reputable installer should provide comprehensive warranties. The majority of modern solar panels are equipped with a warranty spanning 20 to 30 years, encompassing both the product's integrity and its energy output. An ordinary workmanship warranty offered by a certified company typically provides coverage for solar panels for an average period of 10 years.

Transparent Pricing and Contracts:

Get detailed solar quotes that include all costs, from equipment and labor to permits and inspections. Review the contract carefully to ensure it's clear and transparent, with no hidden fees or surprises.

Local Knowledge:

Choose a company familiar with local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes. This can expedite the installation and ensure compliance.

Customized Design:

Look for companies who provide custom solar system designs tailored to your specific energy needs and property characteristics.

Energy Production Estimates:

The installer should provide accurate estimates of how much energy the system will generate, factoring in local climate conditions and other key influences. If your estimated solar savings are much higher with one solar company, you'll want to inquire further to ensure their savings projections aren't skewed to close the sale. Connect with us for a free estimate.

Financing Options:

Inquire about solar financing options, including purchase, lease, or power purchase agreements (PPAs). Ensure you know the pros and cons of each option.

Customer Service:

Assess their responsiveness and willingness to answer your questions and concerns and consider the installer's commitment to your project satisfaction. Throughout your solar process we’ll advocate for you, ensuring your solar project is done right.

References and Recommendations:

Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have installed solar panels. Ask the installer for references from past clients who can share their experiences. You can also read the latest reviews on Pacific Sun Technologies.

Multiple Quotes:

Don't hesitate to obtain quotes from multiple installers to compare pricing, services, and warranties. Hint: We can help!

Financing and Incentive Knowledge:

Ensure the installer is knowledgeable about available incentives, tax credits, rebates and financing options. At EnergyPal, we’ll help maximize your savings.

Safety Practices:

Confirm that the installer adheres to safety protocols during installation to protect both workers and your property.

By researching and considering these factors, you can select a reputable solar installer who will provide a quality solar energy system and a positive experience throughout the installation process. Connect with us to learn more about the best solar installers in your area.

Steps for Installing Solar Panels

  • Qualification: Contact solar companies through web forms, referrals, or flyers. Answer questions to determine eligibility.
  • System Design: Receive initial solar system design in a proposal. Review the design and consider panel placement, avoiding “under-sizing“ or “oversizing.“
  • Compare Quotes: Evaluate quotes, considering factors like monthly payments, power output, and system details. Seek guidance to simplify the comparison.
  • Contract Signing: Select a company and panel design, understand and sign the contract.
  • Site Survey: Technician assesses the site for solar panel installation, checking roof orientation and structural integrity.
  • Engineering: Behind-the-scenes process finalizes system layout, electrical configuration, and structural safety for permit submission.
  • Permitting: The company obtains necessary permits and approvals, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Installation: Expert team mounts panels, installs wiring and inverters, connects the system to the grid.
  • System Activation: Request final inspections, obtain permission to operate (PTO) from the utility, and turn on the system. Monitoring apps track power generation.
